スカイラーキングの極性エラーについてトッドが反論！「本当に位相の問題があったかどうかは分からんが、最終的にリリースされたアルバムのマスタリングには僕は一切関与していない！」
今回発売された極性を直したSkylarkingのＣＤですが、
アンディによると極性エラーはトッドのスタジオの誤配線が原因らしいということでした。ところが先日、当の本人、トッドから反論が…。
いやはや、いつ仲直りするんでしょ、この二人。

Just to keep the facts straight, the original version of Skylarking was mastered by myself and Greg Calby at Sterling Sound. One might assume from the ‘phase’ implications, that the producer of the record and one of the premier masterers on the planet somehow missed this so called issue and released a faulty product.
まずは、誤解を正したい。Skylarkingのオリジナルバージョンは、Sterling Soundで僕とGreg Calbyによってマスターリングされた。例の'位相’問題の話を聞くと、このレコードのプロデュ―サーと地球上最も優れたマスターリング師のひとりに数えられるプロが、どうしたことかこの問題に気が付かず、うっかり不良品をリリースしてしまったように思われるかもしれない。
To be clear, at the completion of the record Andy went to some trouble to crap all over the project, and if this had been a real issue it would have been part of his ammunition.
誤解のないように言うと、レコードが完成すると、アンディは一生懸命このプロジェクトについてこき下ろした。つまり、これが当時そんなに問題であったならば、アンディは絶好の攻撃の材料としていたはずだ。
However, the final release of the album was NOT the master that Greg and I approved. Andy and the band’s A&R man at Virgin decided that Dear God did not belong on the record, which then had to be remastered. I do not know if Greg was involved, but I was not. If he was, I have full confidence he would not create a faulty master.
しかし、最終的にリリースされたアルバムのマスターは、僕とグレッグが承認したものではなかったのだ。アンディとヴァージンのＸＴＣのA＆R担当者が、Dear Godはこのアルバムには入れるべきではないと決めて外した。そして、リマスターされないといけなかった。そのリマスター作業にグレッグが関与したかどうかは知らないが、僕は関わっていない。もし、彼が関与したとしたら、絶対にそんな不具合のマスターなど作ったりしないと100％自信を持って言える。
So if there actually was a phase problem (my jury is out), the responsibility probably lies with a mastering lab in England who had to recut the master to the new running order, then recut it again when they discovered that the actual hit single on the album was Dear God.
つまり、もし本当に位相の問題があったのならば（自分の結論はまだだが）、おそらく、その責任は、Dear Godを外したために新しい曲順でマスターを再度カットした後に、実はDear Godこそ、このアルバムの中で売れるシングル曲だと気が付いたために、再びカットしなければならなかったイギリスのマスタリングラボにある。
