That album I just played to death for a few years but there’s only really one track which I play over and over again, which is called ‘Love On A Farmboy’s Wages’. Oh my God! I can loop that track and play it over and over again easily. It’s so beautiful in every respect. There’s such a simplicity to it. If there’s a line to anything that we’ve talked about, this could go back to Blue or The Incredible String Band.
XTCのママーは数年に渡り死ぬほど聴いたアルバムだが、中でもこの曲だけは何度でも聴けると言えるのはLove On A Farmboy’s Wagesと言う曲なんです。全く凄い事に、この曲ときたらループにして何度も何度も聴けてしまうんですよ。あらゆる意味で美しい歌なんです。何とも言えないシンプルさがあって。今まで話した中でリンク付けられるとしたら、Blueとか、The Incredible String Bandになるでしょう。
It’s got some really wild drumming on it but it’s acoustic. If Mumford And Sons say they haven’t heard this then they’d be lying. This is early Mumford And Sons.
この曲ではドラムが結構ワイルドなんですよ。でも、実はアコースティックなんです。もし、Mumford And Sonsがこの曲を聴いた事などないって言ったら、それはウソですね。これってまさしく初期のMumford And Sonsですよ。
I think XTC were a very versatile band but probably didn’t do as well as they could have. They’re very English and quintessentially British and maybe that didn’t translate well to the rest of the world but they’re one of my favourite bands and that track in particular stands out really well. And it still stands the test of time and it still sounds as good as the day I first heard it.
XTCはあらゆる音楽をこなせる多才なバンドだったと思いますが、おそらく可能であったはずなのに、実際はそれ程成功しなかったんです。彼らは非常に英国らしい、骨の髄までブリティッシュというバンドだったが、多分それがイギリス以外の国では受け入れられなかった要因ではないでしょうか。自分はXTCが大好きなんですが、彼らの曲の中でも特にこの曲は本当に際立っています。何年経っても古臭くならない、今、聴いても初めて聴いた時と同じくらいに良い歌だと思えるんです。
トニー・ヴィスコンティのディスコグラフィー：これはすごい。。。実はこれはほんの一部だそうで。プロデュースしたのは１００件近いとのこと。
あとがき：あ～そうか！だから私普通フォーク・カントリー系苦手だけどMumford And Sonsだけは好きなんだワ。どうしてこのグループはすんなり聴けるんだろうと思ったけど、確かに似ておるわ。
