XTCのカバーをしてくれるのは非常に嬉しい。上手下手は関係なし。日本人のメロディオンから猛烈なインプロバンドまで。感動したのはフィッシュがライブでメルトザガンをプレイした時。トッドのディアゴッドカバーも嬉しかった。
グレッグ：他人がXTCのカバーバージョンをすることについてはどう思います？
アンディ：良いね。上手下手かは別。そんなの関係ないんです。誰かがカバーしたいと思ってくれたこと自体、本当に嬉しいから。数人の日本人がやったメロディオンによるカバーであろうが、激しいインプロバンドがやったカバーであろうが、カバーしてる人が音楽的に習熟していようがいまいが、全て凌駕するんです。ものすごく感激したのは、Phishがライヴの途中で「Melt the Guns」へと移行した時。うわー。現代のグレイトフル・デッドと言われているバンドだぜ。全員優れたプレーヤーだし。どうして俺たちなんかの曲に手を出すんだ？トッド・ラングレンと僕との不仲についてはあちこちで一千回以上も書かれているけど、トッドが "Dear God "のカバーをやった時は本当に感動しました。何と素晴らしいアレンジャーだろう。本当に優秀なアレンジャーなんですよ。
Greg: How do you feel about the cover versions you've heard of your music?
Andy: They are OK. No matter how proficient or how clumsy, it rises above all that. Because it's really warming that somebody wanted to cover it. That outweighs all of proficiency or lack of proficiency, whether they're covers on melodicas by a couple of Japanese people or whether there are a fierce improv band playing. I was really I was really touched when Phish went break into "Melt the Guns" in their lives set. Oh wow. This is the band that's got this reputation of being the modern Grateful Dead. Yeah they're all good players. Why are they messing with our material? For all of myself and Todd Rundgren's bad blood which it's all been said 1000 times over, I was really touched when he did a version of "Dear God". What a great arranger that man is. Really is an excellent arranger.
